Preparation: It is best to do this exercise in a familiar, quiet, comfortable place where other influences (noises, bright lights, pets, etc.) won't interfere with the exercise.

 

To do this exercise, the third stager should sit in a comfortable meditation pose while someone reads the following aloud.

Note: The first part of this exercise is usable by anyone. While everyone is welcome to make use of the final portion of the exercise, it is intended most specifically for third stage members of the Adidam Youth Fellowship and is adapted from Avatar Adi Da's Word.

Contemplate the nature of what you know and what you cannot know.

 

Ponder this: everything you know is based on the sense that things, or others, or events are familiar and can be known. In fact, only certain, superficial features of things or others or events can be known. At depth, no thing, being, or condition is familiar or knowable.

 

In your waking state mind, or even in your dreaming state mind, you can experience and remember and know all kinds of familiar details about things, others, or events—but you do not now and cannot ever entirely know what any thing is. Your waking state mind (and your dreaming state mind) only reflect limited points of view. You cannot grasp reality as it is with the mind.

 

In truth, you exist prior to the mind.

You are already without knowledge.

You are always already free of the need to know.

You are always already ignorant.

 

This ignorance is not failure or silliness or stupidity.  It is a fact of your existence. Understand this. Feel the disposition of this ignorance, and it will transform your existence.

 

“Consider” the letter “M”, for example.

Picture it in mind.

Ponder all that you experience or know about the letter “M”.

Do you know what the letter “M” is?  Altogether and really is?
No.

 

What does this reveal about you?

What is your body?
What is your mind?

What is “you”?

You don’t altogether know, do you?

 

Feel the feeling of this ignorance.

This feeling--ignorance is the intuition of the Divine Mystery.

This feeling--ignorance is participation in what is Eternal and prior to all conditional knowing.

 

Now contemplate your own hand. From a practical, or scientific, or aesthetic point of view, you may know all kinds of things about your hand.  But, no matter what practical knowledge you may have about it, you do not know how your hand originally came into being. You do not know how, in the most prior sense, your hand is being sustained now. You do not know what it essentially is. You are always already not--knowing. Your existence is Mystery.

 

The same Mystery pertains to everything.

You do not know what any other human being is.

What is a shape?

What is a place? Where is it?

Where is this place? Where is it? Where are you now, exactly?

 

Let yourself be totally mindless—because there is no way to know what anything is. You can know practical details about things, that is all. But no matter how many details you know, you do not know what anything is . . . or why it happens to be.

 

You are always already alive in the Mystery of Eternal Being.

Feel the Infinite and Eternal Circumstance in which you are now living.

Feel the totality of your living being (not just the fleshy part).

Feel that you are just a moment in the totality of Indivisible Light that goes on and on.

 

Light is Eternal, without end, and without beginning.

You are involved in something that will continue for billions upon billions—magnified by geometrical numbers to the fiftieth billionth power—of years, for Eternity! But, no matter what arises, in the Eternity of your living being, you will never know what even a single thing is! Rest in the feeling of that Divine ignorance.

        

You exist in the moment of Eternal Being. Awaken to Eternal Being by realizing that there are no "answers".

 

You do not know at all.

You do not know where you are!

You do not know who you are!

You do not know what you are!

You do not know what the future is!

You do not know what the past is!

 

Let go of trying to look good and realize that you do not know!

Accept that you are not in control. You exist in absolute, unqualified Mystery.

 

Exist in this moment, floating in space—wherever that is—and be totally sublimed, beyond all knowing, inherently happy and free. Surrender has no answers.

Love--Bliss stands free of information. Only the Mystery is Eternal and free.

Beloved, I am Da.

I am the Divine Mystery, in person. 

 

I am always already existing, beyond and prior to attention and all knowledge.

I am the Mystery in which you are arising. What you perceive to be “you” is merely a transparent, unnecessary, and non--binding modification of My “Bright” Divine Condition. 

 

Recognize Me.

Respond to Me.

Commune with Me in whole--body ecstasy. 

​

Turn to Me whole bodily—beyond all “experience” and every thought. 

​

Let Me live you. 

​

Dissolve in the Mystery of My Divine Love--Bliss.
